HIGH DEFINITION SURVEYING (HDS)
Felch Street Replacement Project HEI provided the Newaygo County Road Commission with High Definition Surveying (HDS) services for their Felch Street Culvert Replacement Project. Due to the steep incline of the ravine embankment, the Road Commission was concerned with placing a survey crew in a potentially dangerous situation and was also concerned about the difficulty of obtaining an accurate topographic survey due to the ravine’s limited and awkward accessibility. FedEx Ground Production System HEI provided Siemens Dematic with High Definition Surveying (HDS) services for their FedEx Ground Facility located in Columbus, Ohio. Siemens Dematic was installing a new conveyor system consisting of a complex and multilevel operation of conveyors and chutes to an existing system. In preparation of a proposed design, data was acquired using our HDS tool, safely and unobtrusively gathering millions of points. Safety benefits – avoided placing crew in potentially dangerous situation Data collection – gathered millions of points, which can be used for accurate interference checks, within a very congested two floor area Time benefits – the 40,000 square foot area was scanned in just five days
The “Hinman Pond” Excavation HEI provided High Definition Surveying (HDS) services for a 5-acre newly excavated pond. Due to the irregular shape and depth, the manual measurement was going to be very timely and costly. With the use of HEI’s HDS service, the client was able to acquire the necessary data needed to determine the surface area and the square footage of the clay liner that was to be installed. Data collection – provided accurate calculations despite irregular pond shape Safety collection – site scanned remotely without interference to the pond Budget and time savings – scanned under budget in just 2 ½ hours
HEI was given the exciting opportunity to provide assistance in the historic preservation and restoration of the Kent County Civil War Monument & Fountain located at the corner of Monroe, Fulton and Division Avenues in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. HEI volunteered their High Definition Surveying (HDS) services in an effort to assist the Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War in this restoration process. A virtual 3D digital scan of the monument was produced with precise dimensions that can be used for accuracy in the restoration process. Historical preservation – useful for placement of inner steel structural reinforcement Archiving benefits – scan will serve as a complete and accurate means for archiving in case defacement or destruction is done to the monument
HEI was given the challenge of producing four facade and three floor plan elevation drawings for the existing McKeough Land Company Building in Grand Haven, Michigan. These services were provided for Chuck Posthumus Architects with the aid of HEI’s High Definition Survey (HDS) tool. Safety benefits – remotely scanned without the need for ladders or scaffolding Data collection – elevation drawings were produced for each floor at given location per clients request Budget savings – in just 2 ½ hours, building was scanned and additional section views will require minimal time to produce
HEI recently assisted Tower, Pinkster Titus & Associates (TPTA) with High Definition Surveying services for the update and remodel of the Grand Rapids Civic Theater. The architectural redesign will assist with the revamping of the interior and will allow better flow and increased functionality throughout the interior of the facility. HEI services included providing and external scan of the theater to produce facade drawings; providing vertical control within various interior locations and surveying the seating and balcony area for structural reinforcement. Time savings - architect was quickly provided with accurate exterior facade drawings Safety benefits - critical measurements were obtained in hard to access areas where safety risks were elevated Data collection - with the pointcloud, HEI can quickly and accurately extract 2D plans, elevation and isometric views with dimensions in key areas, as well as produce 3D modeling
