Holland Engineering provided engineering design, bid document preparation and contractor bid evaluation services for the installation of the Bald Mountain Pedestrian Pathway. In addition, Holland Engineering also assisted with on-going construction inspection services during the construction of the pathway. The path is 1.8 miles in total length with 1 mile being constructed parallel to park roads. This pathway is in addition to the existing 15 miles of marked hiking trails located within the Bald Mountain Recreation Area and has a 6’ wide asphalt surface with a 2’ wide gravel shoulder. The remaining portion of the pathway is a 6’ wide compacted gravel walking path with a wooden bridge stream crossing.
Over the past several years, the Holland area has experienced several major rain events resulting in significant flooding. Wanting to address these issues, and seek an update to the existing 1960 Storm Water Master Plan, the City of Holland solicited proposals for providing a comprehensive new plan. Holland Engineering is pleased to be partnering with Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber, Inc. to provide engineering and surveying support for the Master Plan update.
As part of the project team, HEI will utilize its extensive knowledge of the Holland area to perform an inventory and assessment of storm water infrastructure along with the establishment of a city wide benchmark system that will be used for future projets. These services will include surveying the physical location of much of the main line "trunk" storm sewer and open drains within the city for incorporation in the City's existing GIS database. HEI will also provide the assessment of the condition of the located structures and piping.
Holland Engineering was selected by the City of Muskegon to assist with surveying services for the jurisdictional transfer of Shoreline Drive designating it as a state business route. This survey was necessary to designate the lakefront boulevard as U.S. 31 Business Route. In order to move forward with the transfer, a complex survey of the entire right-of-way was conducted and then the survey was approved by MDOT prior to assuming responsibility of the new business route.
Survey Services - provided a full topographic survey of the project limits, described and defined the right-of-way limits, developed the legal alignment and described the right-of-way boundaries of Shoreline Drive
Holland Engineering also reproduced the project within the existing Plat of 1903.
Holland Engineering assisted Port Sheldon Township with the preliminary master planning of the overall trail system for the Blair Street Non-Motorized Bike Path.
Design Services – included pedestrian bridge design, pavement design, stormwater management, and coordination with private utilities, home owners and the public school for a 2-mile section of pathway.
Construction Services – included construction staking, field observation, and contract administration.
Holland Engineering also assisted with the preparation of a wetland permit application and a grant application to MDOT. Construction plans, permitting through the local agencies, and bid specifications and advertising were handled in house.

Holland Engineering completed a water system reliability study for the Allegan County Services Center located in the Dumont Lake Area of Allegan Township. In cooperation with the Allegan County Facilities Management staff, Holland Engineering completed a review of existing occupancy and water demands, evaluated performance of existing well pumps, updated water system utility mapping and prepared hydraulic modeling of potential fire flow demands. The results were summarized in a document entitled "Water System Reliability Study," which now serves as a report to the MDEQ and as a planning tool for Allegan County Facilities Management.

Holland Engineering provided design and permitting support to the Allegan County Road Commission for replacement of a 48- inch CMP culvert running under 136th Avenue adjacent to Hamilton Middle School. The existing culvert had become a hydraulic constriction within the area-wide drainage system and a source of concern for property owners, school officials and the Road Commission.
Using topographic data collected by the Road Commission's surveyors, Holland Engineering created a HEC-RAS computer model to analyze existing conditions and evaluate replacement options. Based on MESBOA criteria as required by MDNRE for sizing and placement of stream crossing culverts, a 14' x 6' precast concrete box culvert was selected to minimize stream impacts and expedite construction activities.
Holland Engineering provided over 20 miles of road design and structure surveying services to MDOT for US-10 through Midland County. For the road design, Holland Engineering provided horizontal and vertical control and cross sections at 500' intervals throughout the project with 100' superelevated curves. Holland Engineering also provided a structure survey for US-10 over Sanford Lake.
Holland Engineering, Inc. assisted Olive and Blendon Townships with a feasibility study for the Borculo Area Wastewater Collection and Treatment System. To date, Holland Engineering has evaluated the initial and projected service area populations and wastewater flows for both Olive and Blendon Townships. Holland Engineering also developed and presented a conceptual plan proposing construction of a wastewater system along Port Sheldon Street.
Based on the initial system layout, Holland Engineering facilitated discussions with the Ottawa County Road and Drain Commissions on preferred locations for the proposed sanitary forcemain and gravity sewers. Holland Engineering also conducted a detailed topographic survey of the proposed route and prepared the Preliminary Design package including updated project cost estimates. In addition, Holland Engineering evaluated possible locations for the proposed sanitary pump station.
