Each year, Holland Engineering invites students studying engineering or surveying to apply for a $2,500 scholarship. For the third year in a row, Marcos Larson, a student at Michigan Technological University has been awarded the annual scholarship!
Marcos is pursuing a degree in Geospatial Engineering and just finished up his third year of classes. After spending his summer with our Pipeline Surveying Group for the last two years, he chose to pursue his interests in geospatial engineering.
“My time at HEI has helped me achieve my academic and professional goals by providing me with hands-on experience, in addition to supporting my educational endeavors,” said Marcos. “I have been exposed to the ins and outs of geospatial engineering earlier than most of my peers.”
3D LiDAR mapping and photogrammetry are two areas that peak Marcos’ interest. Last summer, Marcos was able to learn the basics and by interning this summer as well, he hopes to grow his knowledge of those technologies.
Marcos has continued his outstanding scholastic achievement and community service. He is an active member of the Douglass Houghton Student Chapter (DHSC), a pre-professional surveying organization, as well as working with his campus youth group organization, volunteering for various local organizations, and playing on a variety of intramural teams, all while maintaining his studies and working.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Marcos is excited to enter the field of professional surveying and he plans on pursuing his professional surveyors license post-graduation.
Once again, Congratulations, Marcos, and best wishes as you pursue your personal and professional goals!
