BRIEF
We worked closely with Pilot Travel Centers’ internal design and construction group to develop plans for the new Pilot Travel Center #1021 in Holland.
This was an interesting and challenging project for various reasons. First, the site was a unique shape. Second, it was located near two MDOT-controlled roadways with access limitations, and was bisected by a county drain. Third, due to zoning by the City of Holland, the property was covered by two different overlay districts regulating building and sign placement and landscape requirements.
We provided the initial ALTA/NSPS survey, wetland delineation, MDEQ/USACE joint permit application for a drain relocation and enclosure, construction plans in accordance with Pilot Travel Center’s standards, and municipal site plan and special land use approvals. Working with the City of Holland and Michigan Department of Transportation, we coordinated with an ongoing traffic safety project in the area. We also prepared local permit and approval documents; provided construction survey, layout services, and construction support; and assisted with project closeout.
